Controller, Management, Financial Manager

Staff Bright is currently seeking a strong Controller with a background in project-based accounting to join a growing organization near Utica, MI. Our client is expanding their operations and looking for someone who wants to make a real impact in a fast-moving professional services environment.

The ideal candidate brings experience within construction, civil engineering, or architecture industry is comfortable overseeing full-cycle accounting and project financials (including billable/hourly revenue models), and approaches their work with a collaborative, hands‑on, and growth-oriented mindset.

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Lead project accounting function, including job costing, revenue recognition (percentage of completion), WIP reporting, and contract billing (lump sum, T&M, cost‑plus)
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections to support executive decision‑making
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, state, and federal regulations, particularly related to publicly funded infrastructure projects
• Coordinate and support external audits, government audits, and work with outside financial consultants
• Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and financial processes
• Partner with leadership to provide financial insights, profitability analysis, and strategic planning support
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting a collaborative, people‑first culture

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership within a project‑based or professional services firm (hourly/billable revenue environment)
• Experience working in the construction, architecture, or engineering services industry required
• Strong knowledge of project accounting practices (lump sum, T&M, cost‑plus, percentage of completion, etc.)
• Experience overseeing full‑cycle accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
• Ability to lead and develop an accounting team
• Experience ensuring compliance with GAAP and managing internal controls
