Power Plant Operator - Point Lay

Summary or Purpose

Operate, monitor and maintain generators, switch gear controls, motor control center and equipment associated with mechanical equipment used to monitor and distribute electricity.

• Monitors and maintains the oil and fluid levels of power plant equipment in accordance with standard Department procedures and Borough policy.
• Monitors and makes necessary adjustments to water temperatures and pressures.
• Operates and maintains stationary engines, generator sets, associated mechanical equipment and facilities.
• Maintains generator cooling system, mixing and testing for recommended levels.
• Changes oil, fuel and air filters.
• Maintains a daily log of equipment performance, power output, generator operations, and power and fuel outages.
• Assists Lead Power Plant Operator and Village Services Supervisor with inventory; requests, receives and stores supplies and equipment.
• Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
• Complies with all safety rules and regulations.
• Attends all required scheduled safety meetings.
• Responds to power plant alarms and power failures, and reports problems to supervisor.
• May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

High school graduate or G.E.D. or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
