Supports, monitors, tests and troubleshoots hardware and software problems relating to the Local Area Network. Provide basic system maintenance for the department's network system.

Responsibilities- Assist Borough employees with computer diagnostics, investigation of problems, and provision of technical assistance and support.
- Assist in the maintenance of inventory for all LAN/WAN supplies.
- Perform system backup operations.
- Participate in information systems planning.
- Schedule system repairs.
- Basic installation of, and repairs to computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.
- Referral of major hardware or software problems or defective equipment to engineers or technicians for assistance.
- Maintenance of records regarding daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities conducted.
- Remain current on all new trends and technologies relating to network development.
- Provide first level support to the Borough's PC network computer uses including evaluation and diagnosis of problems, installation of software and software updates, and maintenance and repair of hardware and peripheral equipment.
- Perform computer trouble shooting to diagnose network system problems; analyze personal computer and peripherals functionality; identify, resolve and repair problems.
- Maintain and update network computer systems; install software upgrades and enhancements; document work performed.
- Assist in the research and implementation of systems upgrades.
- Travel to outlying villages as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or G.E.D. or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
- Three years of computer experience, including one year of computer hardware and software work experience.
- Three years experience in a customer service environment.
- Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of principals and capabilities of computer systems, including networked environments and peripheral devices.
- Knowledge of commonly used Information Services concepts, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Local Area Network principles.
- Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting techniques.
- Skill in using basic tools, equipment and procedures for repairing computers and peripheral devices.
- Data processing experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Valid Driver's License from the state the individual is currently residing in and have the ability to obtain a valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to pass Security Clearance with the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) within 60 days of hire.
