Oversee and perform a wide variety of maintenance work at facilities and grounds which includes routine maintenance, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and electrical. Also assists with preventative maintenance such as flooring and/or ceiling work, door and/or window replacement/repair, painting, roofing, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and electrical.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with coordinating and maintaining inventory of parts and supplies for facility repairs.
  • Order materials as needed; maintain accurate records and inventory control along with receiving reports.
  • Assist licensed plumbers and electricians with HVAC, plumbing, electrical and security systems.
  • Perform quality inspections on work completed by other Facility Maintenance Specialist staff.
  • Coordinate, maintain and repair physical structures as needed.
  • Use power tools and departmental equipment to perform basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air conditioning, plumbing and/or other repairs and maintenance.
  • Inspect all North Slope Borough facilities, equipment and grounds for necessary repairs, improvements, or preventative maintenance.
  • Comply with all safety standards.
  • Protect self, co‑workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Within NSB Health Facilities and NSB Itinerate Quarters, respect clients and/or tenants by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.
  • Work a non‑traditional work schedule to include evenings, holidays, and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on‑call status.
  • Travel as required.
  • Perform janitorial duties on the grounds and in the facility.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the work order(s) received.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Skill in using personnel computers and a variety of software applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co‑workers and others.
  • High school graduate or G.E.D., or a combination of 12 years of education and work‑related experience.
  • Three years of combined work experience in carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
  • Minimum age 21.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit.
  • Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonic tuberculosis.
  • Ability to obtain CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid Certifications within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 10 Hour Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.
  • Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
  • Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.
  • Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.
