Overview
Assist in the management and monitoring of operations and safety of NSB Search and Rescue flight crew as Pilot in Command of Borough operated aircraft; assists in the development and implementation of flight crew training programs of NSB Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel; assists in ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Borough regulations and policies.
Responsibilities- Serve as a Pilot for the Search & Rescue Department.
- Fly aircraft under visual and instrument flight conditions.
- Assist the Chief Pilot in formulating and monitoring SAR flight operations policies.
- Assist in coordinating and identifying training needs for pilot staff on new and existing aircraft and equipment.
- Assist in coordinating pilot work schedules according to FAA and NSB policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with Chief of Maintenance to assure compliance with scheduled maintenance requirements and resolution of aircraft discrepancies.
- Monitors and reviews trends in search, rescue and emergency services and recommends operational and procedural improvements.
- Perform preflight duties to include visual inspection of the aircraft, checking weather conditions and filing flight plan.
- Performs post flight duties upon arrival at destination; secures aircraft; assures maintenance issues are noted.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of NSB Search & Rescue Department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Alaska geography and topography.
- Knowledge of procedures for deployment of personnel and equipment in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of Borough, State and Federal flight rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of Search and Rescue principles and procedures.
- Skill in supervision, coordinating pilot staff and delegating tasks and authority.
- Skill in safely piloting assigned aircraft for search, rescue and air medical evacuation flights.
- High school graduate or G.E.D/or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate with multi-engine airplane or Rotorcraft/helicopter;
- FAA Class II Medical certificate;
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Permit;
- 4000 hours of total flight time and 500 hours of Arctic or remote area flying experience;
- One year management or supervisory experience to include coordinating flight operations;
- Ability to obtain a valid Alaska Driver's License that meets the North Slope Borough insurance criteria within thirty days of employment.
- Applicants must pass a criminal background, fingerprinting, and a Safety TSA test provided by the State of Alaska DOT, to obtain an AOA badge required to operate on airport premises within 30 days of hire.
