Job Description

Uxbridge Public Schools seeks a dynamic special educator to support students in a therapeutic classroom located at Whitin Intermediate School. This role provides academic and social skills support for students with disabilities and Tier 2 intervention for students in an incremental inclusive model.

The position serves as a special education liaison for students in the classroom and collaborates with general education teachers, staff, and specialists across grades 4‑7.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and provide direct instruction in both inclusion classroom settings and small group/individual settings as per students’ IEPs.
  • Assess student learning, monitor understanding of the general education curriculum, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Consult and collaborate with general education staff and specialists regarding student learning styles, differentiated instruction, curriculum modifications, and appropriate teaching materials.
  • Align academic instruction with general education classroom expectations.
  • Develop IEP goals and objectives that align with student IEPs and complete related documentation promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with IEP development and implementation in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Facilitate annual review and progress update team meetings as needed.
  • Administer and interpret formal and informal educational assessments and prepare written evaluation reports as required.
  • Collect and analyze student work samples and related data to monitor progress and identify skill gaps.
  • Collaborate with and supervise paraprofessionals/ABA technicians.
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents.
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts DESE Licensure in moderate or severe special needs is required.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred).
  • At least one year of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with students, parents, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of various disabilities and the related needs within an inclusive educational setting.
  • Familiarity with curriculum standards and formal/informal research‑based assessments and interventions.
  • Commitment to inclusive pedagogy and high expectations for achievement and equal access to high‑quality instruction.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
  • Prior experience in ABA‑based instruction, trauma‑informed practices, restorative practices, or social/emotional skills training is preferred.
