Junior Clinical Fellow for Neurological Rehabilitation

This post will primarily be based at the Daniel's Rehabilitation Unit, Hillingdon Hospital. However the post holder will be expected to cross cover annual leave at Alderbourne ward as well. The post holder will be supported by a large team of Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine (Dr Nair plus the new post holder) and Neurologists (Dr Tai and Dr Nandoskar). Dr Sara Ahsan, a very experienced speciality doctor, is key to running of the service.

The post holder will be supported by a registrar in Rehab Medicine, a senior clinical fellow and another junior clinical fellow. All trust employees are expected to work across the 2 trust sites at Mount Vernon and Hillingdon to meet service demands, however for the moment both rehabilitation units will be based at the Hillingdon site.

Job responsibilities

The Clinical Fellow will be a key member of the inter-disciplinary rehabilitation team and will assist the consultants in the day‑to‑day management of the 20 bed neurological Rehabilitation Ward. He/She will take an active part in patient management and be responsible under the supervision of the Consultant and Speciality doctor, for the day‑to‑day medical management of the inpatients. There are a variety of Neurology Clinics (Movement disorders, Neuromuscular, Inflammatory Neurology including Multiple Sclerosis and general neurology including ward referrals) that the post holder can attend under consultant supervision in the first instance.

The primary role however will be the day‑to‑day running of the neurological rehabilitation ward.

He/She will attend weekly consultant ward rounds and the inter‑disciplinary ward meetings. Duties will include reviewing the inpatients, attending case conferences, ordering and following up on relevant investigations, documentation in the medical records and ensuring the electronic and multidisciplinary discharge letters are completed on time. The post holder is expected to support negotiations with families, carers and patients in respect to their care at Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit and in their adjustment to the impact of disability.

He/She is expected to provide clinical reports to funding and referring authorities as required and to apply for DOLS application where necessary.
