Mammography Technologist

Under general supervision and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Mammography Supervisor and the Radiologist, performs Mammography and related clerical service duties.

I. Major Responsibilities:

• Operates Mammography Equipment and performs Mammography Exams; makes a psychological and physical assessment of each patient, making adjustments in the standard imaging procedures and techniques to accommodate patient size, age or condition using universal protocol and sterile techniques as necessary. Demonstrates breast self-examination if required.
• Records all pertinent breast history from the patient and notes any discomfort or medical complaint which could be of importance to the Radiologist.
• Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, and safety control. Accurately documents work in the HIS/RIS/PACS and PEN RAD systems.
• Assists in other areas/modalities as needed.
• Cleans and maintains all accessory equipment (i.e., paddles, detectors, work area).

  Registration in both Diagnostic Radiology and Mammography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Licensed by the State of Massachusetts as a mammography technologist. BLS healthcare provider required before completion of 90 day probationary period.

  Level of knowledge equivalent to an Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology. Preferred:
  Prior experience in the field.

• On-the-job time is spent in the following physical activities:
  Stand - 2/3, Walk - 2/3, Sit - 1/3, Talk or hear - 2/3, Uses hands to finger, handle or feel - 2/3, Push/pull - 2/3, Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl - 2/3, Reach with hands and arms - 2/3.
• This job requires that weight be lifted, or force be exerted:
  Up to 10 pounds - 2/3, Up to 25 pounds - 1/3.
• This job requires exposure to the following environmental conditions:
  Work near moving mechanical parts - 2/3.

Must be a certified/licensed Mammography Technologists to apply for this position. The certification to perform other radiology procedures is a plus.
