Cross Connection Control Inspector/Specialist
Salary Range: $72,996.94 - $97,709.28 / Annually
The City of Vacaville seeks a Cross‑Connection Control Inspector or Specialist to protect the public water system from contamination and ensure compliance with State and local regulations. The role involves field inspections, testing, and maintenance of backflow prevention assemblies, program compliance activities, and liaison with regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities- Conduct cross‑connection control surveys and inspections
- Test, inspect, maintain and repair backflow prevention assemblies
- Identify potential cross‑connection hazards and investigate customer complaints
- Review plans, inspect installations, and coordinate with contractors, developers and property owners
- Educate customers and stakeholders on cross‑connection control requirements
- Maintain inspection records, testing data, reports and other program documentation
- Assist with water quality monitoring, distribution operations and water conservation activities
- Respond to emergency and non‑emergency field situations related to water distribution and cross‑connection
- Act as the program’s technical authority at the Specialist level and provide guidance and liaison with regulatory agencies
Education: Completion of twelfth grade.
Experience: One year (Inspector) or two years (Specialist) involving complaint investigation or public contact work in water utilities, plumbing, or related field and adjustment of mechanical control devices.
Licenses and Certificates (Inspector):
- Grade 1 (D1) Water Distribution Operator Certificate from the California SWRCB
- American Water Works Association (AWWA) Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) Certificate (desired; must be obtained within six months if not possessed at hire)
- California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
Licenses and Certificates (Specialist):
- Grade 2 (D2) Water Distribution Operator Certificate from the California SWRCB
- AWWA Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) Certificate
- AWWA Cross‑Connection Control Specialist Certificate
- California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
Ongoing maintenance of valid licenses and certificates is required as a condition of continued employment.
