SUMMARY

The Multimedia Communications Coordinator supports the District's storytelling and public engagement efforts by producing written, photographic and video content that highlights schools, students, staff and programs across Vail School District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Storytelling & Content Production
  • Writes feature stories, e-newsletters, newspaper articles, marketing copy and executive communications on behalf of the District.
  • Produces high-quality photographs and video content documenting District programs, schools and events.
  • Travels throughout the District to visit school sites, attend school events, and gather stories and content that reflect the work of public education.
  • Photographs and films school and District events; edits photos and video for use across platforms.
  • Maintains the District's photo and video library in an organized, accessible state.
Digital & Social Media
  • Writes, designs and schedules social media posts.
  • Monitors and responds to comments and messages on District social media and community forums.
  • Monitors social media for trending issues or negative mentions that need attention.
  • Helps drive engagement on social media platforms.
Internal Communications & Marketing Support
  • Creates flyers, graphics, and short videos for District use.
  • Responds to requests from principals and staff for communications support.
  • Assists in designing flyers, print media, banners and digital graphics for District publications, ads and promotional materials.
  • Helps coordinate photo and video shoots at schools.
  • Supports production of District publications.
Enrollment & Recruitment Support
  • Helps create and distribute open enrollment materials for social media, TV/radio, and print campaigns.
  • Supports distribution of print materials to preschools, developers, and community partners.
Department Operations & Coordination
  • Represents the District professionally when interacting with students, staff, families and community members.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or GED required;
    Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Multimedia/Digital Media or related field preferred.
  • Experience writing for publication and producing photo or video content preferred, particularly in a school, nonprofit or public sector setting.
  • Proficiency with photo and video editing software, computer applications and social media platforms required, or any equivalent combination of related experience and/or training.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience as approved by the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Director of Community Connections, or Assistant Superintendent.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and reliable transportation required for travel between District sites.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to listen and obtain clarification. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, and policies; and to respond to common inquiries or complaints using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.

Ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences, including employees, students, parents, community members, Governing Board, and the general public.
