Position Overview

The Town of Vail is hiring Emergency Communications Specialists.

We are looking for a Public Safety Emergency Communications Specialist to work in our state‑of‑the‑art communication facility in Vail, CO. In this role you will be an essential member of the team that dispatches emergency service calls 24/7 for 13 public‑safety agencies in Eagle County.

Compensation & Bonus

Hourly pay: $32.00 becomes $33.20 after training. Hiring bonus: $6,000 paid in four installments of $1,500 each.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, analyze, and prioritize 911 calls and non‑emergent calls for Police, Fire, and EMS.
  • Perform Emergency Medical Dispatch and give lifesaving instructions over the phone.
  • Use a computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) system to record incident details and track responder status.
  • Distribute dispatches to Police, Fire, and Medical units per guidelines.
  • Monitor radio traffic for all public‑safety units.
  • Access nationwide databases to locate confidential records for responders.
  • Send emergency alerts to the public.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Must work all shifts: day, night, weekend, and holiday.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to multi‑task and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Emotional control in stressful situations.
  • Empathy and compassion toward callers.
  • Strong computer and typing skills.
  • Prior guest‑service, call‑center, or emergency‑services experience preferred.
