Purpose

The Student Support Services Specialist provides additional support for students and faculty in the areas of testing, accommodation plans, and differentiated instruction. This position will be working with the team for the first semester of the 26/27 school.
The candidate will start after August 10th and complete their work December 18, 2026. As a member of the Student Support Services team, this position works across the K-12 community to ensure success for students at Vail Mountain School.

  • Hold a Bachelors degree in education from a 4 year college
    • Bonus points for a Master Degree in special education or a related field and any certificate or certifications in the field of special education
  • We would also love to hear about any experience in special education, students with diverse learning profiles, and/or differentiated instruction
  • Committed to pursuing professional development and a life-long learner
  • Flexible and adaptable to student needs and Vail Mountain School’s needs
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university
  • Passionate about fostering and furthering a culture of belonging and inclusion in our school.
What You Will Do
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the internal SSS team to effectively schedule, plan, and deliver instructional intervention support
  • Remain current with best practices in the field of student support services and diverse learners
  • Interpret and implement outside Formal Accommodation Plans
  • Share learning needs with faculty to properly support student learning
  • Proctor exams and provide assessment accommodations
  • Manage testing and documentation for students with Formal Accommodation Plans as dictated by individual plans including communication with families, staff, and outside evaluators
  • Ensure adherence to Formal Accommodation Plans in cooperation with Division Director(s)
  • Provide instruction and assessment for primarily middle school students, but you may work with younger and older students as needed.
  • Help students with executive functioning, planning, and long term organization
  • Communicate with families and teachers about adjustments or modifications to instruction, assignments, or assessments
  • Discuss best practices for identifying student needs, making referrals, creating interventions, and measuring the effectiveness of interventions with faculty
  • Strive to build awareness, empathy, and instructional practices that differentiate for the diverse, VMS student body
  • Advocate for and ensure that diversity, inclusion, and social justice permeates the school’s programs and drives its culture.
