The Senior Planner manages high-priority, complex land use applications and building permits while supporting strategic long-range planning initiatives. Operating with a high degree of independence and professional judgment, the ideal candidate brings an open, collaborative communication style to team projects and lends a focus to exemplary public service.

We are seeking two forward-thinking professionals with a growth mindset who are dedicated to building a better Eagle County for all.

Hiring Salary Range: $81,926-$118,792.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with occasional evening meetings.

Travel throughout Eagle County, included but not limited to the Eagle & El Jebel offices.

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities) Current & Long-Range Planning
  • Manage High-Impact Files:
    Drive the end-to-end scoping, execution, and public recording of at least 10 active, highly complex, or politically sensitive land‑use files.
  • Analyze & Review:
    Evaluate project applications against Eagle County Land Use Regulations, state statutes, and federal environmental guidelines.
  • Shape Policy:
    Formulate data‑driven policy updates, process text amendments, and partner with the GIS team to draft high‑quality written reports, white papers, and studies.
  • Lead Regional Initiatives:
    Manage consultant procurement and direct multi-departmental project timelines on an as‑needed basis.
Public Service & Collaboration
  • Build Strategic Alliances:
    Foster collaborative partnerships across Engineering, Resiliency, the County Attorney’s Office, non‑profits, and external regional stakeholders.
  • Public Representation:
    Lead weekly Development Review Team meetings, pre‑application forums, and present critical findings at public hearings.
  • Support & Mentor:
    Share expertise to guide, train, and coach junior planners and administrative staff while supporting Planner of the Day (POD) public inquiries.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
  • The Groundwork:
    Bachelor’s degree in Urban/Regional Planning or a closely related field, paired with at least 6 years of professional planning experience (Local government experience is heavily preferred).
  • The Advanced Edge: A Master’s degree can substitute for 2 years of experience. An active AICP certification is highly desirable.
  • Complex Case History:
    Minimum of 1 year of proven success managing and presenting complex, politically sensitive files (e.g., commercial development, mixed‑use, or code‑writing).
  • Systems Proficiency:
    Experience with or a strong desire to master Google Workspace, GIS, Laserfiche, and Ener Gov permitting systems. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a valuable asset.
  • Licensure: A valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
