Job Summary:
The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. This role requires expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The Surgical Technologist works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and contributes to patient safety and efficient perioperative operations.
Responsibilities:- Apply sterile and aseptic techniques in support of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, following AORN standards.
- Maintain and inspect surgical items for proper packaging, processing, and sterility, ensuring equipment functionality and patient safety.
- Monitor the sterile field for contamination risks and initiate or notify corrective actions as needed.
- Develop competency in Tier 1 surgical cases and maintain flexibility in care delivery within the scope of practice.
- Communicate effectively with the perioperative team, actively participating in Time Out processes including briefings and debriefings.
- Assist with patient transports, operating room turnovers, and preparation.
- Stay current with new technologies, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment relevant to the role.
- Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
- Model professional behavior and uphold the principles of a Just Culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
Certifications:
- Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist license.
- Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
- Proficient computer skills to complete online learning and documentation.
- Working knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking.
Certifications:
- Experience or demonstrated competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
- Familiarity with AORN standards and perioperative best practices.
- Must maintain HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Work environment may involve exposure to radiation, toxic chemicals, biological hazards, heat, noise, dust, and stress.
- Physical demands include standing 50% of the time, walking 20%, and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Work schedule consists of three 12-hour day shifts per week.
- Shift assignments and start times are determined by the facility's scheduling policies.
