Our ideal Transit Bus Operator understands that their role is an essential part of the larger system, ensuring the smooth operation of county transportation and moving people efficiently. As a Transit Bus Operator, you’ll navigate the twists and turns of your prescribed route, picking up, transporting, and dropping off passengers on schedule while adhering to local, state, and federal laws and standards.
Your journey will be guided by superior customer service, making every passenger’s trip a pleasant experience. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to steer our seasonal operator training efforts, sharing your expertise and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

- Perform thorough, federally mandated pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
- Practice safe defensive driving techniques, always staying alert to speed and external conditions.
- Assist passengers, including those with disabilities, ensuring compliance with ADA standards and providing a welcoming experience.
- Share route and schedule information to help riders reach their destinations with ease.
- Operate transit equipment, including fare boxes, dispatch systems, and security cameras, with confidence and precision.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch and passengers, addressing policy questions and ensuring smooth operations.
- Stay informed by regularly checking employee communication channels for updates on policies and procedures.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork, including accident and incident reports, with accuracy and timeliness.
- Observe safety and security procedures, report potential hazards, and maintain a safe work environment.
- Serve the community by demonstrating Core Transit’s mission and values in every interaction.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
CDL Class B with passenger and air break endorsement.
Special Requirements- Must meet all physical requirements outlined in Section 391.41 of the CDL Physical Standards, including passing a DOT physical.
- Must comply with all federal regulations and company policies regarding drug and alcohol testing, including meeting the standards set forth by 49 CFR Part 655, 49 CFR Part 40, and the Drug‑Free Workplace Act of 1988, as amended.
- Working hours will vary, Monday‑Sunday, 23hrs a day, 8/10‑hour shifts.
- Ability to work from all our locations Avon, Vail, Leadville as needed.
- Availability to work holidays and weekends.
- Mobility:
Sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, and climbing on and off buses. - Coordination:
Simultaneous use of arms, hands, legs, and feet to safely operate the vehicle. - Strength:
Lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally. - Endurance:
Maintaining focus and alertness during long shifts and challenging road conditions. - Vision & Hearing:
Clear communication and the ability to respond to emergency situations.
