Winter Clinics - Instructor

The City of Valdez Parks & Recreation Department is hiring an Instructor for Outdoor Winter Clinics.

This is a non-benefited, temporary position working a non-traditional schedule to include weekends. Most of this work will be performed outdoors and in inclement weather.

Position is open until filled, review of applicants begins March 5, 2026.

• Plan and lead winter recreation clinics as scheduled (adult and youth)
• Instruct participants in technical skills such as ice climbing fundamentals
• Coordinate and utilize technical equipment
• Ensure safe setup, instruction, and breakdown of all clinic activities
• Provide basic education and demonstrations on topics such as crevasse rescue and rope anchoring (as applicable to future programs)
• Maintain a strong focus on participant safety, risk management, and best practices
• Communicate with Parks & Recreation staff regarding scheduling, logistics, and program needs
• Support the development of additional winter clinics and skill-based programming

• Some high school education with relevant experience.
• Current certification as PSIA or AASI or past certification.
• Past teaching experience in a recreational setting, sports, etc.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• First Aid/CPR (training will be provided if needed)
• Must have valid drivers license with 5-year clean record.
