Prince William Sound College (PWSC) is seeking qualified applicants for adjunct faculty positions in a variety of general education fields, including arts, humanities, business, and social sciences. PWSC is a one‑of‑a‑kind institution of higher education with its main campus located in Valdez, Alaska, and extension sites in Cordova and Copper Basin.
ResponsibilitiesAdjunct faculty will develop and deliver instructional materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments, in accordance with program curriculum and learning objectives. They will provide guidance and support to students, including mentoring, advising, and academic assistance. Adjuncts will be asked to work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds.
QualificationsPrevious teaching experience is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds. Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student success. Ability to collaborate with colleagues, industry partners, and stakeholders to enhance program quality and relevance.
Minimum QualificationsApplicants will be assessed based on academic background, teaching experience, and potential to deliver high‑quality instruction to undergraduate students. Relevant experience in the subject field is required, with past teaching experience preferred. Industry certification, as appropriate, is required.
Position DetailsThis position is located on the Prince William Sound College campus in Valdez. It is a part‑time, for‑credit adjunct faculty position. Salary is based on experience and the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska. Successful applicants must provide official transcripts as a condition of employment, and must submit a cover letter, resume, up to three professional references, and a request for a transcript of graduate credits to the PWSC Office of Academic Affairs.
This is a pooled position; applications are reviewed as needed and a student contract is not guaranteed upon acceptance into the pool.
This is an at‑will, union‑represented adjunct position and may be canceled based upon the needs of the university. The position is represented by United Academic – Adjuncts, AAUP‑AFT/AFL‑CIO. Successful applicants are required to complete a background check; any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the background check.
