The Alaska Court System – Job Description

Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for advance step placement.

Personnel rules will be applied to determine step placement for the successful internal candidate.

Regular responsibilities will include the following:

This position involves a wide range of responsibilities that support the functioning of the court system. The employee responds to a variety of questions from the public, court staff, and other agencies, providing accurate information and assistance regarding court procedures and case matters. They are responsible for managing jury operations, which includes screening jurors through qualification questionnaires, monitoring attendance, processing excusals and deferments, and maintaining accurate jury data.

The role also includes managing court filings by accepting documents, setting up case files, and entering case information into the computer management system. Additional duties involve issuing and recalling warrants and summons, creating and entering judgments, closing and transferring files, and completing the associated paperwork.

The employee screens incoming documents for accuracy and completeness, performs research to resolve special issues related to case filings, answers written inquiries, ensures compliance with case management standards, and performs extensive data entry. Financial duties include generating receipts for payments received from the public, balancing and closing the cash drawer at the end of the day.

As a courtroom judicial assistant, the employee supports judicial officers during hearings in the Valdez, Glennallen, and Cordova courts. This includes setting up the courtroom and recording equipment, ensuring accurate records of proceedings, maintaining courtroom supplies, logging detailed notes during court sessions, preparing and distributing paperwork, and swearing in witnesses and jurors.

This position is assigned to the court's classified service; the incumbent will attain regular status after completion of the initial probationary period.

The Work Schedule

This is a 30-hour per week position. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
