Augusta University's Department of Orthodontics at the Dental College of Georgia is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor to oversee and participate in departmental teaching programs at the pre and post-doctoral levels, department research and scholarship, and administrative leadership for the Department of Orthodontics in the Dental College of Georgia (DCG). This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities Teaching/Instruction - 50%Teaching classes on campus, or remotely with DCG approved distance education (synchronous or asynchronous) activities. Explaining concepts and procedures and demonstrating skills. Supervising labs/problem-based learning sessions. Directing thesis/dissertation/research at the predoctoral and postdoctoral levels, independent study or directed study conveying content to students. Previewing materials for possible classroom use.
Clinical/Patient Care - 20%Provides patient care while teaching with learners present (includes patient care activities for which a practice plan bills a patient or other party) as part of the faculty members teaching of students or residents). Patient care without learners present. Administration activities that support the clinical mission of AU. Leadership roles in professional organizations related to area of clinical expertise and/or leadership roles, courses or programs.
Consultant on issues related to area of clinical expertise.
Publications in peer-reviewed journals, books and book chapters, invited professional seminars and presentations. Securing extramural grants from government agencies, health foundations, corporations, conducting clinical trials, lab studies and literature reviews.
Service - 10%Journal editor ships and editorial board service. Service (and/or leadership role) in academic/community/honors/professional organizations. Teaching continuing education (CE) courses. Faculty presentations such as lecture series, recitals and readings, workshops or programs. Attending faculty training or professional development programs.
Required QualificationsUS DDS or DMD degree (or foreign equivalent)
Georgia Board of Dentistry License/Georgia Faculty Teaching License or credentials that qualify for Georgia Board of Dentistry License
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) Certification. Craniofacial experience.
Prior teaching experience in orthodontics.
Shift/Salary/BenefitsThis position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
