Student Affairs Coordinator – Student Engagement

Valdosta State University, Valdosta, GA

Job Summary

Coordinate and oversee a variety of student affairs and student life programs and services to improve the quality of student life and retain students.

Based on the recent Proclamation:

Responsibilities
  • Deliver Programs and Services for Students – 40% Develop, implement, and market programs and services that reflect the goals of the student affairs office and meet the needs of students. Implement data‑based initiatives to gather and analyze feedback. Stay abreast of trends and best practices.
  • Support Student Development – 20% Provide coaching, guidance, and supervision of students and student organizations on academic achievement, development, leadership, conflict resolution, and community building. Foster an inviting environment and a culture of learning.
  • Promote and Develop Partnerships – 20% Build and maintain initiative‑based partnerships with campus partners and student organizations. Respond to partners, alumni, and parents with questions and concerns.
  • Enforce Policies and Procedures – 10% Enforce university and system policies, respond to issues, and resolve problems.
  • Manage Reports, Records, and Budgets – 10% Maintain program files, prepare regular and special reports, and manage budgeting.
Supervisor Expectations
  • Programming and Event Management

    Coordinate planning, promotion, implementation, and assessment of campus programs and events for engagement and community building. Serve as the primary staff advisor for programs and student planning committees.

    Assist in major campus traditions and signature events such as Fall Explosion, Family Weekend, Homecoming, Lighting of the Palms, Spring Welcome Week, Mayhem Music Festival, and other initiatives.

    Ensure programs are engaging, student‑centered, and aligned with mission. Maintain event logistics and serve as an active presence at events.

  • Student Engagement and Community Building Foster relationships with students, create welcoming environment, develop programs encouraging participation, school spirit, leadership, and belonging; assist initiatives for residential, commuter, transfer, graduate, and traditionally underserved populations.
  • Campus Activities Board and Student Leadership Advise and support the Board and student leaders. Mentor in event planning and leadership. Recruit, train, and develop student volunteers and programming teams.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships Work with academic colleges, Residence Life, Career, Recreation, Athletics, and others to design innovative programming. Build relationships with vendors and community organizations.
  • Marketing and Assessment Develop marketing strategies to increase awareness. Use social media and campus outlets. Track attendance, participation trends, program outcomes; collect and analyze feedback; use data to inform planning.
  • Budget and Resource Management Manage program budgets responsibly, monitor expenditures, maintain accurate records, steward activity fee resources, and identify sponsorship opportunities.
  • Risk Management and Operations Ensure compliance with policies, complete event documentation, anticipate operational challenges, and assist with emergency response as needed.
  • Professional Expectations Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and solutions‑oriented approach. Maintain strong organization, attention to detail, and positive collaboration.
Qualifications

Required Experience: Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of related work experience.

Salary

$23.50 per hour ($48,880 annually).
