POSITION SUMMARY:

A middle grades English Language Arts teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging ELA curriculum, managing the classroom environment, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere to support the academic and personal growth of all students.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Must be eligible for a valid Georgia teaching certificate, certification in Middle Grades English Language Arts (4-8). Previous teaching experience in the science classroom is preferred.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet Georgia’s English Language Arts standards and align with the district’s approved curriculum.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students. Create a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive ELA lessons and activities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Assess students’ understanding and mastery of content through various methods, including tests, quizzes, essays, projects, and observations.
  • Provide individualized instruction and support to students with different learning needs and styles, including those with special needs or English language learners.
  • Incorporate technology into the classroom to enhance learning. This includes using educational software, online resources, and interactive tools.
  • Foster a love for literature and writing, encouraging students to think critically, communicate effectively, and develop a lifelong appreciation for reading and language.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians about students’ progress, achievements, and areas for improvement. Engage with the community to promote literacy education and involvement.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends, ELA content knowledge, and teaching best practices.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and staff to support student learning and school initiatives. Share best practices and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, state regulations, and federal laws. Maintain accurate records of students’ grades, attendance, and other required documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Students, paraprofessionals, and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work well with teachers, school administrative teams, and district office leaders.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
