POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health and Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive health and physical education program that promotes physical fitness, healthy habits, and overall wellness among students. The teacher will create engaging lesson plans, assess student performance, and foster a positive learning environment that encourages active participation and personal growth. The preferred candidate is willing to serve as a coach for a seasonal sport and will hold or be willing to obtain a CDL license.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Must hold a valid Georgia teaching certificate in Health & Physical Education (P-12) or be eligible for certification. CPR & First Aid certification preferred. All Health & PE teachers are strongly encouraged to serve as a coach for a seasonal sport and hold or be willing to obtain a CDL license.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement a health and PE curriculum consistent with Georgia state standards and school district goals.
  • Design engaging and inclusive lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Instruct students in physical fitness, health education, and wellness concepts.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment for all students.
  • Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social interactions.
  • Promote lifelong fitness and healthy habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student performance and physical fitness.
  • Provide constructive feedback and modify instructional methods to meet individual needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and achievement.
  • Stay updated on current trends and best practices in health and physical education by attending workshops, seminars, professional meetings, and participation in professional learning communities.
  • Continuously improve teaching skills through self-evaluation and professional development activities.
  • Encourage and facilitate parental involvement in students' health and physical education.
  • Communicate effectively with parents about student progress, upcoming events, and ways to support physical activity at home.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to integrate health and PE concepts across the curriculum.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and school events.
  • Coordinate with community organizations and resources to enhance the health and PE program.
  • Select, requisition, and maintain appropriate equipment, materials, and supplies for health and PE activities.
  • Ensure the safe and proper use of all equipment and facilities.
  • Supervise students during PE classes, recess, and other activities to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and activities as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Students, paraprofessionals, and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work well with teachers, school administrative teams, and district office leaders.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
