POSITION SUMMARY:The Middle Grades Social Studies teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous and engaging instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Social Studies. The teacher will foster critical thinking, civic understanding, and historical inquiry while creating a supportive, inclusive learning environment that meets the academic and developmental needs of all students.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, ANDWORK EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia teaching certificate with certification in Middle Grades Social Science (4-8). Previous teaching experience in a middle grades classroom is preferred. A strong understanding of Georgia's curriculum standards for social studies and a demonstrated ability to foster student engagement and achievement are essential.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Social Studies and align with the district’s approved curriculum.
- Adapt instructional materials and strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles, interests, and abilities.
- Establish and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment with clear expectations for behavior and learning.
- Engage students in content-rich instruction that promotes analysis, interpretation, and understanding of historical, economic, political, and geographic concepts.
- Design and use a variety of assessment tools - formative and summative to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
- Integrate instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student learning and digital literacy.
- Promote civic awareness and responsibility through classroom discussions, simulations, and project-based learning.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and provide timely feedback.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in social studies education and pedagogy.
- Collaborate with fellow educators, administrators, and support staff to ensure cohesive instructional practices and interventions.
- Maintain accurate student records in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
- Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
- Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Must perform routine physical activities such as bending, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
