About the PositionThe Planner I position provides professional and technical planning assistance to SGRC's member local governments.
Key Responsibilities- Research, draft, update, and present comprehensive plans, transportation studies, and other long‑range planning documents
- Assist with public meetings, workshops, and community outreach
- Assist local governments with zoning, subdivision review, and land development code updates
- Conduct demographic, socio‑economic, GIS, and transportation‑related data analysis, specifically with a bicycle and pedestrian safety program
- Prepare planning reports, maps, graphics, and presentations
- Support department and senior planners on multi‑disciplinary planning projects
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Political Science, Geography, GIS, Environmental Studies, or related fields
- 1‑3 years of experience in planning, land use, transportation, or a related area; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in keyboarding
- Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License and acceptable MVR
- Successful background check and drug test
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, detail‑oriented researcher, and effective writer who is comfortable working with local officials, community stakeholders, and the public.
Work Environment and ScheduleOffice location will be in Valdosta, GA. Excellent benefits package included. Salary competitive and DOE/Q, depending on experience and qualifications.
