DEPARTMENTEMS - AMBULANCE SERVICE
SCHEDULEFull Time, 8 HR Day Shift
Position SummaryThe Training Lieutenant is a core member of the department’s frontline leadership team working closely with Training Captain and the Assistant Chief of EMS Training. The training lieutenant is responsible for assisting with the instruction of initial and continuing education classes. The Training Lieutenant also responds to calls for service, providing assessment, treatment modalities, and transportation of patients in a variety of controlled and uncontrolled settings.
Provides treatment interventions and advanced life support consistent with department guidelines and according to credentials issued by state authorities. Provides emergency care and rescue in a variety of situations where personal safety may be be needed to assist with the continuum of care in transferring of patients from one setting to another. Attend required training and certification programs, maintaining certain certifications as required by the department or Medical Director.
May be assigned other tasks relating to EMS operations as necessary. The training lieutenant may also have roles during times of disaster, mass casualty, or large public events.
- Licensed as a PARAMEDIC by the Georgia Department of Public Health, for a minimum of two years.
- A minimum of two years’ full-time experience as a paramedic working in a 9-1-1-based ambulance service.
- Current certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS is required. Certification in EP-C, and EVOS is preferred, but is required within 90 days of hire.
- Instructor ships in BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, EP-C, and EVOS are required within 6 months of hire.
- Current State of Georgia Instructor/Coordinator for EMS up to the AEMT level is required within 6 months of hire.
- NIMS ICD courses required within 12 months of employment are 100, 191, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.
- Certification in Critical Care Transport is preferred, required within 12 months of employment.
- An associate degree or equivalent college credit in EMS or related field is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving history in accordance with company insurance standards.
- Supervisory skills needed include scheduling, materials/equipment maintenance, performance appraisal, delegating, decision‑making, teamwork enhancement, constructive counseling.
- Must be able to negotiate relationship situations.
- Must maintain knowledge and ability in clinical skills, and general knowledge of relative information to the department, medical center, and EMS regionally and statewide.
Physical working conditions mostly uncontrolled. Must be able to work and make decisions in adverse climates and situations. Probable exposure to personal safety and health risks. High level of stress. Physical abilities include lifting, bending, pushing and pulling without limitations. Must be able, with assistance, to lift and carry a 100‑pound stretcher, with patient on board, using proper techniques to prevent injuries to self, co‑worker and patient.
Must be able to care equipment and travel on foot for several hundred yards. May be required to perform duties for extended periods of time in critical situations. Intensive mental effort required. May be required to make quick decisions and judgments during extreme situations.
