Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Operations Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to ensure the timely, efficient, and safe processing of surgical instruments and equipment. This role serves as a liaison between the Operating Room and SPD, assisting with workflow coordination, staff support, quality assurance, and compliance with regulatory and infection control standards. The Coordinator works closely with the SPD Manager to optimize instrument turnaround times, maintain high-quality standards, and support staff education and competency.

Education
  • Current certification as a CST/CSTFA/CRCST
Experience
  • Three (3) years’ experience in surgical services and/or sterile processing environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of instrument processing workflows, regulatory standards, and infection prevention practices.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to lead by example, delegate tasks effectively, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient in instrument tracking systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Working Conditions - ADA Information

The majority of work will be completed in a hospital setting environment where sterility and cleanliness are of the utmost importance. Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to one-hundred (100) pounds with assistance. Regularly required to reach and stretch with hands and arms. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, and control knobs of equipment and/or instruments.

Frequently required to stand for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch; frequent walking; may be required to climb and maintain balance. Must be able to speak clearly, hear at low volumes, and smell. Vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to adjust focus. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.

Will have frequent exposure to blood and body fluids. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
