Assistant/Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology (Savannah) – Augusta University – Full-Time, Regular.
The Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is actively seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Under supervision of the hospital forensic director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the completion of criminal forensic evaluations. Job duties include participation on the recovery planning (treatment) team;
facilitation of group treatment; participation in the development of individualized recovery (treatment) plans; documentation of treatment progress; completion of face‑to‑face forensic evaluations to determine competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and violence risk; report preparation; expert testimony; clinical supervision of behavioral health counselors, and related work as assigned. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
- Conduct court‑ordered pretrial and competency education and evaluations as a forensic psychology evaluator to answer questions of competency to stand trial and/or criminal responsibility as a neutral party to the court.
- Complete assessments on individuals admitted to Savannah Regional Hospital, Forensic Psychiatric Unit.
- Conduct forensic risk assessments and other psychological testing.
- Conduct groups and psycho‑educational interventions.
- License may be temporary, provisional, or permanent. License eligible if able to obtain within a reasonable time (i.e., relocation from another state).
- Work with students on forensic evaluations.
- Complete all annual training for both AU and DBHDD.
- Attend virtual meetings for the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior through AU.
PhD or PsyD or equivalent. Forensics experience/training. Knowledge of abnormal psychology, pertinent statutes and case law related to the practice of forensic psychology, malingering assessments, intellectual testing, personality assessment, responsibility assessments, risk assessments, best practices in mental health treatment, and ethical/professional guidelines for the practice of forensic psychology. Completion of the state’s Competency to Stand Trial Certification process within one year of hire is required for continued employment.
Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post‑graduate training.
Associate Professor – Mid‑level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions: consistent with SACSCOC requirements for institutional accreditation; evidence of ability as a teacher; evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned; successful experience (waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, biographical data, and recommendations.

This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment or full‑time equivalent for this position is 1.0 and considered full‑time.
Assistant Professor – Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. Salary is subject to availability of funds.
