Position Summary

The hospice aide (CNA) is a paraprofessional member of the interdisciplinary group who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various services for a patient as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs and to promote comfort. The hospice aide reports observations and documents care performed.

Hours & Schedule

Full Time; 40 hours per week. Works in patients' homes in various conditions. Requires flexible schedule, ability to travel locally, and participation in holiday and weekend rotation as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Meet training and certification requirements of the State.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Licensed driver with a car insured per organization requirements and in good working order.
  • Empathy for the needs of ill, injured, frail, and impaired patients.
  • Prolonged standing and walking required; able to lift up to 50 lbs. and move patients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform personal care needs after receiving a patient's assignment and attending to requests promptly.
  • Meet patients' safety needs and use equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, O2, etc.).
  • Perform personal care tasks including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen as often as assigned.
  • Assist in dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
  • Assist in feeding the patient as assigned.
  • Assess and report on patients’ condition and significant changes to the case manager.
  • Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
  • Not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to the Nurse Practice Act (e.g., administer medications, take physician’s orders, or perform procedures requiring licensed nurse training).
  • Perform other CNA duties as assigned by management to support department goals and initiatives.
