The Certified Nurse Midwife, under the general supervision of a licensed physician and surgeon, will independently manage women's healthcare, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, and the family planning and gynecological needs of women. Obtain consultation, collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the client. Provide emergency care as indicated as well as rotating Call schedule.
Knowledge,Skills & Abilities
- Function under the Certified Nurse Midwife Practice Guidelines which have been established and annually reviewed
- Skill in comparing/inspecting patient care and judging whether it is similar to or different from prescribed standards.
- Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis to persons of various social, cultural, economic or educational backgrounds, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain information, explain policies and procedures, provide information or resolve conflicts.
- Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, changes in assignments, pressures of deadlines, competitive requirements and/or a heavy workload.
- Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision. Skill in working with frequent interruptions and distractions, under conditions of fluctuating workload.
- Skill in using the Epic Electronic Medical Records.
- An active license to practice as a Midwife in the State of Georgia.
- Successful completion of a Master’s level Nurse Midwifery program that is recognized and certified through the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) and the Georgia Board of Registered Nursing
- ACNM Certification
- BCLS and Neonatal Resuscitation Certification
3-5 Years’ Experience As a CNM Preferred
Working Conditions - ADA InformationWorks primarily in clinic setting, but will be trained in hospital rounds setting. Considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting (occasionally in excess of fifty (50) pounds). Critical thinking skills. Mental effort required to assess, plan, and make or recommend decisions in complex environment. Likely to be exposed to blood/body fluids, including infectious diseases. Duties require considerable walking, stooping, standing, bending, pushing, lifting (possibly in excess of 50 lbs.),
occasional times of sitting, twisting, and kneeling. Ability to operate medical equipment instruments and office equipment. Require visual and auditory acuity, balance, hand dexterity, mobility of body, and mechanical ability. Long shifts, weekend and holiday hours. Takes call as necessary. Considerable mental effort, ability to work in a confined high stress environment.
