College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the-art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. Our department advances outstanding research and education, and trains future researchers, educators, and health care professionals.

Job Summary

Participate in project study, work with trainees and technicians in the laboratory, manage mouse colonies including animal breeding, genotyping, and animal-related experiments, perform, plan and execute simple independent studies, participate in new research techniques and procedures, ensure compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to biohazardous materials, oversee the use of materials and equipment in the laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Perform genetic, genomic, and cell biological experiments to study genetic factors involved in skeletal biology.
  • Participate in research activities and procedures of staff, graduate, and summer students by regularly meeting with lab members. Plan projects and develop research protocols.
  • Maintain mouse lines for musculoskeletal research, upkeep and maintenance of research protocols for mouse research, and assist with lab inspections.
  • Prepare reagents for the lab and organize the research laboratory environment; assist with technical aspects of experiments conducted by trainees.
  • Order supplies and equipment; install, maintain and troubleshoot equipment, update chemical inventory and laboratory protocols.
  • Perform literature searches, analyze research results, prepare results for presentation at local, national, and international meetings and for publications.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting.
  • OR
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years of experience in a research or clinical area.
Preferred Qualifications

Some previous experience with musculoskeletal research is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, willingness to learn. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills. Good memory for detail.
  • Abilities: Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days;
Monday - Friday

Salary:  hourly

Pay Band: B5

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
