The Manager in Training is responsible for assisting the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager regarding overall operations and administrative duties. They are knowledgeable in each product area of the store, help determine methods to achieve store goals, uphold policies and procedures listed in the visual manual, promote each sale and promotion, and act as an ambassador of Hibbett to create a unique customer experience.
In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training assumes supervisory control and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.

Hourly: $9.00 - $11.70 - Non‑Exempt - Retail Department
- Reports To:
Store Manager
- Assist the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in controlling the assets of Hibbett.
- Consult with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to establish an action plan for departmental and overall store responsibilities such as selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
- Assume responsibility for the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
- Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers in all departments when necessary.
- Maintain awareness of inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability.
- Direct staff to ensure each department’s responsibilities and standards are completed.
- Keep the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
- Ensure quality customer service is maintained.
- Perform general administrative duties as needed and receive training in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
- Produce extraordinary customer service highlighted in the customer service manual, including assisting customers upon entry and during peak periods.
- Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by Hibbett.
- Practice and uphold all Hibbett City Gear policies, procedures, and standards as listed in the operations policy manual, personnel policy manual, visual manual, customer service manual, and related memos.
- Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and informing management or appropriate officials of potential fraud risk.
- Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws (interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving problems).
- Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in footwear and athletic apparel.
- 1‑3 years of customer service experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
- Self‑starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
- Strong attention to detail, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and with precision.
- Team‑player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
