Job Summary
Public Safety Officer - University Police on the Valdosta State University campus. Regular, full-time position.
OverviewPerform law enforcement work on a university campus.
Responsibilities- Patrol campus on foot and in a vehicle to detect and deter crime, enforce campus policies, and provide security; enforce local, state, and federal laws. 30%
- Respond to calls for service from students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors and provide assistance in a variety of emergency and non-emergency settings. 25%
- Provide security for campus events and activities. Lock and unlock doors. Control traffic flow when needed. 15%
- Investigate crimes and traffic accidents; gather evidence and interview witnesses, victims, and suspects; prepare related reports. 15%
- Prepare a variety of regular and special reports, including incident reports. 15%
- High school diploma/GED and related work experience.
- Certification from the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia or successful completion of such certification by the end of the probationary period.
$23.65/hr ($49,200/annual)

New employee orientation, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/Outside Activities Policy, Drug Free Workplace, Sexual Misconduct and Title IX, FERPA, Motor Vehicle Policy, Workers Compensation (new hires), Georgia Open Records Act (new hires), USG Cybersecurity Training (required twice yearly), and job-specific training such as FMLA and Worker's Compensation, Budget Manager training, Purchasing Training (ePro & PCard), and Defensive Driving.
