Position: ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE APPRENTICE (AD) (VALDOSTA MILL)

ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE APPRENTICE (AD) (VALDOSTA MILL) Job Description Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Work any assigned shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • At least two years of full or part‑time work in the last four years
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English
  • Satisfactory completion of background check and drug screen

Applicants will be required to have one of the following:

  • A diploma from a technical college in industrial electrical or instrument maintenance.
  • Three years of service in the field of electrical or instrument maintenance (General electrical, instruments, DCS systems, PLC systems, AC/DC drive systems, LV/MV starters, power distribution systems)
  • Three years of military service in the field of electrical or instrument maintenance (General electrical, instruments, DCS systems, PLC systems, AC/DC drive systems, LV/MV starters, power distribution systems)
  • Completed a comparable certified E&I Maintenance Apprentice Program.
Testing and Interview

Applicants will take a series of five written tests and a structured board interview.

The written tests (timed) involve:

  • Basic mechanical principles
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Ability to visualize three‑dimensional figures
  • Ability to compare numbers or patterns quickly and accurately
  • Basic verbal ability

The interview involves a review of each candidate’s:

  • Work history
  • Achievements and accomplishments
  • Knowledge and skill acquisition
  • Interpersonal skills and helpfulness
  • Task‑related likes and dislikes
  • Physical demands experienced on previous jobs

Additional testing following interview includes:

  • Electrical aptitude
  • Basic math skills
  • Electrical knowledge placement
  • Instrument knowledge placement
Accountabilities
  • Work with mechanical, electrical, and process personnel to support maintenance outages and capital projects.
  • Complete necessary programs and training as indicated in the Electrical Maintenance Apprentice Program.
  • Support Mills goals for safety, environmental, and other areas of need.
  • Utilize predictive and preventive programs to identify and correct equipment issues.
  • Complete assigned work for daily, monthly, and annual outages.
  • Effectively complete assigned jobs at lowest cost.
  • Look for opportunities to solve issues, reduce cost, and improve performance.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.
Preferred Qualifications

Pulp & Paper industry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities include:

  • Ability to work well under pressure and within time constraints, multi‑task, and build sound relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Capability for independent sound decision making through creative problem‑solving, ambiguity, and change.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and understand technical correspondence, memos, instructions, and reports.
  • Apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety.
Pay & Benefits
  • Starting salary: $24.12 per hour.
  • 1.5× pay over 8 hours in a day.
  • Paid vacation: 2 weeks per calendar year. Pro‑ra­ta vacation during the initial year.
