Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of sewer lift stations.

  • Inspects, maintains and repairs wastewater lift stations to prevent sanitary sewer overflow and to maintain proper efficiencies.
  • Researches, locates and acquires parts and equipment as needed.
  • Changes motors; replaces motor wiring.
  • Maintains and inspects control panel box components.
  • Repairs pumps; cleans valves.
  • Cleans bar screens; replaces belts; greases bearings; maintains level controls.
  • Mows grass around station.
  • Performs related duties.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of wastewater collection system operation and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of lift station inspection, repair and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of the hazards inherent to sewer maintenance work and the safety measures used to mitigate those hazards.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the maintenance of lift station equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in the use of lift station maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Skill in the preparation of required reports.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Obtain and maintain a State of Georgia Wastewater Collection System Operator license.
  • Obtain and maintain a State of Georgia Water/Wastewater Plant Maintenance Technologist – Class III license.
