Position: Broadband Specialist I

Position Overview

Broadband Specialist I (Field Technician) – Primarily focused on new installations of cable television and broadband services. You will operate a company van, visit customer homes, and represent Mediacom. Duties include installation, changes of service, additional outlet installation, disconnection of service, payment collection, and special customer requests.

Position Responsibilities
  • Complete customer drop installations, from tap to antenna terminals, in single and multi‑unit dwellings, including pre‑wired units
  • Perform new connects, reconnects, disconnects, add outlets, install/remove converters, upgrade or downgrade services
  • Analyze picture quality and judge acceptability of cable service
  • Use connectors, fasteners, and wiring tools; operate hand and power tools as required
  • Complete appropriate paperwork per system management procedures
  • Read signal levels with field strength meter; adjust levels; install connectors on drop cable; maintain clearances; install tap‑off devices
  • Climb poles with proper safety equipment, ladders, or other structures
  • Lift and carry loads up to 100 lbs. and work in confined spaces such as crawl spaces
  • Use VOM or DMM to check for open, short, AC and DC voltages
  • Read blueprints for drop system layouts
  • Inform customers of FCC rules and company policies
  • Drive company vehicles, operate bucket truck, and maintain vehicle upkeep
  • Generate additional revenue through sales techniques and product information
  • Perform clean‑up and salvage of wrecked materials; provide assistance to other employees as directed
  • Adhere to applicable codes, requirements, guidelines, company procedures and safe work practices during installations and changes of service
Position Requirements
  • No prior experience required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
  • General mechanical and consumer devices knowledge
  • Ability to interact and communicate with customers and coworkers
  • Ability to work in high or tight spaces
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent handling of heavy objects (approximately 50‑100 lbs.) and heavy hand tools

Salary
