HVAC Technician II

Summary:

The HVAC Technician II is responsible for installing and repairing refrigeration and air conditioning systems as well as monitoring, maintaining and repairing plumbing and sewage systems. The HVAC Technician openly gives and receives truthful feedback, shares helpful knowledge with teammates, goes the extra mile, and represents Martin's by being an ambassador of superior quality and service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Monitors refrigeration system daily for performance efficiency. Makes adjustments to mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in system to maintain efficiency.

* Works from sketches and blueprints to build code standards.

* Checks and tests various equipment to determine flow pressures and temperatures of steam, water, gases and other liquids within refrigeration operating system.

* Starts system, observes operation, read gauges and instruments, and adjusts mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in system.

* Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.

* Inspects structure to ascertain obstruction to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.

* Welds holding fixtures to steel structural members.

* Checks and tests various equipment to determine flow pressures and temperatures of steam, water, gases and other liquids within operating system.

* Adds chemicals such as caustic, sulfuric acid, or superfloc A130 to disinfect and deodorize water and other liquids.

* Inspects equipment or monitors operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.

* Collects and test water and sewage samples, using test equipment.

* Operates and adjusts controls on equipment to clarify water and process or dispose of sewage.

* Maintains, repairs, and lubricates equipment, using hand tools and power tools.

* Cleans and maintains tanks and other work areas using hand tools and power tools.

* Monitors and adjusts pH levels using specified chemicals.

* Responds to "call-in" request for service.

* Works flexible hours to meet project/task deadlines.

* Adheres to safety, food safety, quality and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.

* Reports safety, food safety, and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

Qualifications:

Education and/or

Experience:

* High School Diploma or GED;

* Two to four years of air conditioning and commercial refrigeration service;

* Knowledge on/using HVAC/Plumbing Systems such as:
Compressed Air Systems, Boiler Systems, Centralized Comfort Cooling, Industrial Refrigeration System, DAF System, etc.;

* Basic Welding Skills;

* Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
