The Senior Graphic Designer will direct the conception and execution of visual elements in the Wine Enthusiast print magazine and branded assets. This role drives the visual excellence of the magazine, working to ensure a consistent aesthetic throughout the brand, in collaboration with the Digital and Commerce/Marketing Art Directors. The role requires a keen balance between strategic growth demands and artistic innovation to consistently deliver compelling, engaging magazine pages.
Beyond the print magazine, the Senior Graphic Designer is also responsible for translating editorial and brand strategy into compelling visual narratives for various print and digital projects, such as event materials, marketing assets, promotional mailers, and digital advertising layouts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Spearhead the execution of print magazine visual assets—including covers, features, in-house commerce ads, and advertorials—managing the process from initial concept through to final production. This includes determining typography, selecting imagery, and designing layouts in alignment with established brand standards.
- Contribute to the planning of photo shoots, illustrations, and design elements alongside the Visuals Director and editorial team, ensuring a cohesive and immersive final product.
- Oversee the implementation of all photographs, illustrations, and other graphic elements in the magazine. Ensure all visuals elevate the magazine's storytelling and incorporate contemporary design best practices.
- Lead art meetings and manage briefs to maintain aesthetic consistency across all themed magazine issues.
- Produce a range of promotional and marketing collateral, including various print and digital assets that promote the brand.
- Collaborate with other Brand Creative leads to generate innovative ideas and projects that result in high-quality visual narratives.
- Liaise with external partners such as design studios, photographers, and illustrators to guarantee the final print quality meets the brand’s premium standards and expectations.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in design software like the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma.
- Degree or equivalent professional accreditation in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated history of creating successful visual assets for both print and digital platforms like websites, newsletters, and social media.
- Prior experience in managing external contractors such as illustrators.
- Highly developed aesthetic sense and understanding of color theory, typography, and composition.
- Experience presenting visual concepts and decks and collaborating with stakeholders on other teams.
- Experience managing a print production lifecycle, including processing files and providing final approval of magazine pages.
- Some knowledge of, and passion for, wine is a plus
- Experience working at a food, drinks, travel, or lifestyle print publication is a plus
- Illustration skills are a plus
- Proven ability to establish and maintain a cohesive visual identity across diverse platforms and touch points.
