Industrial Hygiene / HAZMAT Project Manager – New York City, NY
WSP is initiating a search for an Industrial Hygiene / HAZMAT Project Manager for our New York City, NY office. In this position, you will be responsible for providing technical services by performing investigations, monitoring, and sampling of lead and asbestos related materials for our clients. The candidate will also support industrial hygiene projects such as indoor air quality assessments, mold investigations, and health and safety plan development.
Work is performed in the immediate NYC area, including all five boroughs, Westchester and Long Island.
- Manage technician-level employees.
- Conduct asbestos and/or lead abatement monitoring and investigations.
- Frequent travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester & Long Island.
- Perform indoor environmental quality (IEQ) assessments – mold, IAQ and chemical assessments.
- Conduct professional environmental science work and environmental studies to gather information on environmental problems, verify site characteristics, and plan for future needs.
- Maintain reliable transportation, possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings and recommendations to address, prevent, control, or restore environmental problems.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Assist with the development and scoping of medium‑sized projects.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Conduct research as appropriate and assist with proposal development.
- Work with cross‑functional teams in executing project work.
- Stay current in the latest environmental science subject matter and techniques.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or other related scientific discipline.
- 5 to 7 years of experience working as an environmental scientist and completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, and/or construction monitoring.
- Project management experience with small to mid‑level projects, including tracking hours and expenses.
- Current NYS Department of Labor (NYS DOL) Licensed Asbestos Inspector/Project Designer and/or Asbestos Project Monitor.
- NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Asbestos Investigator.
- NYS DOL Mold Assessor.
- EPA Lead Inspector and/or Risk Assessor.
- SSPC (C3) – Lead Supervisor/Competent Person for Commercial Building/Superstructures.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Must be able to use a computer and proficient in MS‑Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $86,000 - $141,900
