Under the direction of the nursing leader, the Nurse’s Aide Per Diem assists in performing a variety of duties related to the physical care of the patients, including obtaining a report of patient assignments from the RN at the start of the shift and providing meticulous care to each child. Per diem nurse’s aides are eligible for a evening and night shift differential pay.

The Nurse’s aide Per Diem will rotate on our inpatient and outpatient units as needed. Placement in Long‑Term Care requires a current New York State Nurse’s Aide Certificate.

Inpatient Units:
Infant/Toddler, Pediatrics/Traumatic Brain Injury, Long‑Term Care.

Inpatient Unit

Shifts:

Variation of Monday‑Sunday, 7am‑3pm, 3pm‑11pm, 11pm‑7am.

Outpatient Unit:
Day Hospital.

Outpatient Unit shifts:
Monday‑Friday, 8am‑4pm.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining unit and patients’ rooms compliant with regulatory agency codes and standards, obtaining, recording, and reporting vital signs to RN.
  • Changing patients to and from various adaptive equipment as recommended/directed by therapists or RN, maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Assisting with or performing treatment procedures that have been predetermined for each patient, feeding or assisting with feeding of patients during meals/snacks.
  • Assisting patients with diapering/toileting/showers as necessary, repositioning assigned patients to promote skin integrity, muscle tone, and maintain body alignment, maintaining excellent hand hygiene, adhering to precautions as required for each patient.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and assisting the nurse during emergency situations.
  • Prior relevant job experience in a pediatric setting preferred.
  • Weekend & Holiday commitment required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Currently enrolled in a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), Pre‑PA or PA (Physician Assistant), Pre‑Med or Pre‑Physical Therapy program preferred.
  • Candidates with PCT and/or MA licenses in New York State and/or commensurate experience will also be considered.
  • New York State Certified Nurse’s Aide can be placed in our Long‑Term Care Unit.
  • Capability to work long shifts, including nights and weekends, while maintaining a high level of care.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, often with the aid of equipment like lifts or slings.
  • Ability to handle and operate medical equipment, as well as perform tasks such as taking vital signs or administering medications.
  • Needs to be able to perform the following physical activities for most of the time at work standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must be able to move/lift equipment and patients a minimum of 35‑40 lbs.
  • Must exhibit fine motor coordination in the manipulation of biomedical equipment (e.g., thermometers, scissors, etc.).
