Title: Lead Payroll Technician Reports To: Payroll Manager

DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONUnder the direction of the Payroll Manager, provide lead direction and guidance for the timely preparation of the District's payrolls; direct personnel in the performance of assigned accounting duties; maintain and review the District's accounting/payroll and statistical records.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES- Serve in a lead capacity in payroll department. E
- Provide work direction and guidance to staff on assigned payroll responsibilities. E
- Maintain and process the District's payroll records. E
- Process and record specialized payroll transactions and related services; process paperwork on retired and terminated employees. E
- Communicate with District departments and personnel to obtain and provide information, resolve discrepancies and correct errors. Works closely with Human Resources to ensure proper salary payment to all new and continuing employees. E
- Verify data submitted from within. the District including Human Resources pay calculations and employee leave documentation, E
- Update payroll data via computer terminal. E
- Provide information and assistance for the preparation of a variety of payroll related reports; assist in preparation of quarterly and annual payroll reports. Participate in reconciling payroll errors. E
- Coordinate and prepare pay calculations for all District staff. E
- Maintain accurate payroll database and ensure processing of updates, E
- Answer questions regarding contracts as they relate to payroll. E
- Develop and update payroll procedures and record keeping methods as necessary. E
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reconciliation with County Office of Education records. E
- Perform and monitor technical accounting procedures involved in the issuance and reconciliation payments for employee benefits and voluntary deductions in accordance with established procedures. E
- Coordinate payroll processing with other District schools and departments. E
- Monitor and assure compliance with a variety of laws, regulations, established procedures and District policies concerning payroll processing, compensation, employee health benefits and voluntary deductions. E
- Direct and participate in reconciling payroll errors. E
- Take responsibility for meeting payroll deadlines as determined by the County Office of Education. E
- Prepare and analyze all leave banks to ascertain that all of the leave records are updated in a timely manner, including but not limited to Long Term Sick Leave, Disability Leave, and other types of leave. E
- Graduation from high school supplemented by twenty (20) college units in a respectively in a related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in performing accounting related functions preferable in a public school setting.

KNOWLEDGE OF
- Policies and procedures involved in preparation, verification, maintenance and processing of District payrolls.
- District payrolls.
- Principles of accounting, bookkeeping and financial record keeping.
- Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws.
- Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques.
- Principles of training and providing work direction.
- Technical aspects of field of specialty.
- Computerized spreadsheets at the proficient and/or advanced level to include the development of macros and to include at least one of the following;
Microsoft Excel, Lotus 1-2-3, or Quattro Pro. - Word Perfect, Microsoft Work or Lotus Ami Pro.
- Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Train and provide work direction to others.
- Perform complex payroll and accounting work.
- Maintain accurate and interrelated financial, payroll, and related records.
