Definition&Purpose
Under the supervision of the Assistant
Director—Recreational Sports Programs and Facility Operations, the Intermittent
Fitness Instructors teach a variety of classes currently offered within the Group Exercise and Instructional Class Program. The staffis responsible for developing individualclasslesson plans, being familiar with various stylesof class formats offered, supervising class participants, and leading instructional sessions.
This position is based at the Cal Poly Maritime Academy on the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA.
Educational Requirements&Qualifying Experience- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, muscular function, exercise program implementation, safe group exercise, or instructional procedures and use of related class materials and/or equipment.
- Professional instructor certification in related field or prior training required.
- Extensive knowledge of classes being taught.
- Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Current American Red Cross certification(or equivalent) in the following:
Adult First Aid,CPR,andAEDisrequiredwithin
30 daysof hire, training provided by ASI. - Understanding ofcurrent trends in area of expertise.
- Previous experience in supervising and meeting participantsin an instructional environment.
- Ability to learn new formats.
- Consistent attendance at continuing education workshops, lectures, and conferences.
- Superviseclass participants.
- Lead exercise classes and instructional sessions.
- Maintain familiarity with evacuationplansforworkarea.
- Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, andtrainings.
- Provide quality customer service forall staff andmembers.
- Maintain a working relationship with staff and co-workers.
- Adhere to and enforce allPEACdepartmental policies and procedures.
- Commitment toprofessionaldevelopment and leadership.
- Maintaina clean and invitinginstructional area.
- The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and isrequiredtocomply withthe requirementsset forth inASI policy as a condition of their employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) isrequiredfor employment. ASI will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if thebackground check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current ASI employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Periodof Employment
Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at anytimeand ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.
Compensation&Hours- Hourly Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour - $32.00 per hour based on experience for instruction time, $16.90 per hour for meeting and prep time.

** Intermittent employees may not work more than1,000 hours during any fiscal year (7/1-6/30) and are hired on an “as needed” basis only.
Position may require early morning, late night, weekend, and holiday work availability.
Position requires summer term work availability.
