Position: Part-Time, Hourly Career Technical Education/Adult Education Counselor

Position Overview

Napa Valley Community College District (NVCCD) is looking for a part-time CTE/Adult Ed Counselor. The ideal candidate is an active and positive person with the desire, skills, and knowledge to serve students, able to work in an environment of continuous change, and capable of managing stressful situations with patience and compassion. This is a part‑time, non‑tenure track position in the Career Education Department, focusing on Adult Education students.

Starting salary range: $79.40-$85.87 per classroom hour, with potential steps up to $100.46 per classroom hour, based on verified previous college teaching or counseling experience.

Essential Functions
  • Providing comprehensive counseling services for students transitioning from local Adult Schools or community programs, and assisting in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities such as orientation, assessment, counseling, and follow‑up services.
  • Assisting students in career exploration related to educational goals, developing student education plans (SEPs), and selecting courses.
  • Collaborating with area adult schools, community partners, and the State Center Adult Education Consortium (SCAEC) to develop programs and services that increase student transfers from identified organizations.
  • Collaborating with instructional and counseling faculty and staff from other departments and programs, including Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, EOPS/CARE, DSP&S, CalWORKs, Puente, IDILE, SYMBAA, USEAA, Veterans/International, TRiO Student Support Services, Athletics, and other special programs.
  • Developing and facilitating individual and group workshops for area adult schools and community partners.
  • Participating in counseling, transfer, and matriculation activities.
  • Participating in the implementation of guided pathways, student success teams, and student equity initiatives.
  • Teaching courses that focus on career, college success, and transfer.
  • Utilizing advanced counseling methods and student development theories, including the integration of technology to support student learning and identification of career objectives.
  • Assisting in curriculum development, program review, and student learning outcomes to improve student learning.
  • Using technology for data collection and analysis for student success.
  • Serving on college committees, participatory governance, attending divisional and department meeting activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned; and
  • Fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; or the equivalent.
  • Alternative qualification: a bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields plus a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students; understanding of historical exclusion patterns in higher education.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate relational practices to better engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Experience working with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students.
  • Experience designing and preparing Student Education Plans (SEPs) for community college students.
  • Experience working with adult education students in a variety of settings.
  • Experience teaching college success courses.
  • Knowledge and utilization of instructional best practices for students in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of current transfer policies and admission requirements of CSUs and UCs.
  • Marketing skills to enhance student use of counseling services.
  • Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes, transfer agreements, and articulation agreements.
  • Proficiency in available computer applications and technology related to program coordination, counseling, and instruction.
