DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONUnder the supervision of After School Site Coordinator and the District Coordinator of After School Programs, the Expanded Learning Program Assistant develops, implements and facilitates lessons and activities aligned with Extended Learning Program and VCUSD goals that support the academic success and the social/emotional development of all program students.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES- Work with the After School Site Coordinator to develop an engaging out-of-school time program that reflects youth voice, and youth development needs of all students
- Provide students with homework assistance, provide small group tutoring in core academic subjects:
English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, and assist students in developing good study habits - Prepare creative, hands‑on interactive lesson plans with short and long‑range curricular goals and objectives that embody the 5 Principles of Learning in After school and Summer (LIAS): programming that is active, collaborative, supports mastery, is meaningful, and expands horizons to implement a variety of technology, sports, wellness, fine arts, and performing arts programming for youth
- Prepare youth for performances and presentations associated with programming
- Use a variety of materials, resources, and experiences to enrich student learning
- Provide active supervision of students during all programming activities
- Implement the VCUSD’s positive behavior intervention system to help students meet behavior expectations, provide students with positive reinforcement when meeting expectations and corrective feedback when needed
- Use effective positive interpersonal communication with youth and adults
- Maintain confidentiality of student information, written and oral
- Report to Site Coordinator regarding unsafe or unusual incidents and complete any incident reporting documents required
- Participate in regular professional development and program improvement activities
- Assist the site coordinator in maintaining a safe, organized and clean environment for all programming
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) by possessing an Associate's Degree, or 48 semester units from an accredited institution of higher learning, or passing score on the VCUSD proficiency NCLB examination.

- Experience working with school age children
- Ability to communicate clearly in English orally and in writing
- Possess a personal interest, hobby, talent and a commitment to share it with children
- Can use current communication technologies (computer, tablets, cell phone)
- Must have appropriate California Driver's License and be insurable by the District’s carrier.
