COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:
The PBIS Specialist position is funded through the Full-Service Community

Schools grant and is therefore required to be implemented and administered in full alignment with the applicable

grant guidelines and expectations. Duties, scope of work, and reporting requirements for this position must remain

consistent with grant-mandated purposes, allowable activities, and accountability standards, and may not be

modified in a manner that would place the District out of compliance with state grant requirements.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The PBIS Specialist will support school-wide behavior intervention systems, school climate initiatives, and student

engagement programs. This role emphasizes planning and implementing student-centered activities, family events,

and extracurricular programs to enhance school culture and engagement. The PBIS Specialist will collaborate with

administrators, teachers, students, and community partners to foster a positive school climate and implement

proactive behavioral supports.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

- Develop and lead school-wide PBIS lesson plans, educating students on behavior expectations

throughout all areas of the school, and ensure clear, accessible signage is in place to reinforce

these expectations.

- Collaborate with site administrators and staff to implement, monitor, and refine PBIS strategies

aligned with school-wide culture and climate goals, using data to inform decisions and guide

continuous improvement.

- Track and analyze student behavior and PBIS-related data to assess program effectiveness, inform

Tier 1 and Tier 2 Action Plans, and guide intervention adjustments.

- Utilize digital tools such as Smart Pass to monitor student movement, identify behavior trends, and

support safe and structured transitions during the school day.

- Respond to student behavior issues using evidence-based practices, including restorative

approaches and PBIS-aligned strategies, to reduce referrals and suspensions.

- Provide ongoing professional development and staff collaboration opportunities focused on PBIS

systems, behavior intervention strategies, and school climate improvement.

- Coordinate student engagement programs that reinforce behavior expectations and foster a positive

learning environment, including assemblies, monthly recognition events and experiential activities

during and after the school day.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Specialist 2

- Collaborate with the Community Schools Site Coordinator to align PBIS initiatives with broader

student support services and community-based resources.

- Engage families, caregivers, and the school team in developing and implementing tiered behavior

interventions and supports and climate-building initiatives.

- Assist in developing and managing and driving a van pick-up program for students, based on

needs assessments conducted by the Community Site Coordinator.

- Collaborate with the Community School Site Coordinator and transportation department to support

specific transportation accommodations for students and families.

- Monitor implementation, evaluate outcomes, and report the impact of school-wide PBIS strategies

to school and district stakeholders to support accountability and continuous improvement.

- Communicate regularly with the district’s Communications Department to share school highlights,

success stories, and upcoming events.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:

- High School graduation or equivalent.

- Meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) by possessing an Associate’s Degree, or

48 semesters units from an accredited institution or higher learning, or passing score on the

VCUSD proficiency NCLB examination.
