Job Summary:A Makerspace Assistant supports the daily operations ofthe Cal Poly Maritime Academy Makerspace.

Student Assistants help usersoperatespecialized equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing machines,fabrication tools,enforce safety rules,maintain equipment, andassistwith hands-on learning programs or workshops.

Job Duties:

  • Patron Support:Guide users on how to safely use hardware, software, and digital tools.
  • Equipment Maintenance:Clean, troubleshoot, and perform routine upkeep on makerspace equipment.
  • Workshop Assistance:Help plan and lead creative activities,workshops and one on one instruction.
  • Lab Organization:Manage supply inventory, tidy workstations, and track daily usage statistics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Customer Service/Student Support:Strong communication skills to explain technical steps clearly to all ranges of skill levels.

    Must be able to cultivate a positive, inclusive work environment for allshopusers.
  • Technical Aptitude:Familiarity with tools like 3D printers, vinyl cutters,sewing machines, laser cutters, anddesign software including

    Solid

    Works/ CAD programs,Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, 3d modeling Slicer programs
  • Bonus

    Skills:

    Carpentry, Metal Fabrication, Machining, Mold Making,Mechanical prowess
  • Safety Mindset:Strict adherence to workshop safety policies and accident prevention.
