Position Overview
Engineering Technician (Water Department) – one full‑time vacancy. The City of Vallejo seeks a collaborative member of the Water Department. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented and thrives in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment; duties include drafting, design, construction inspection, and office engineering to support water projects. Previous experience with AutoCAD 3D or ArcGIS, and an associate’s degree in engineering or related field, would be highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities- Apply survey information to draft designs and drawings for projects such as base mapping, storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, street designs, site plans, and mockups.
- Research records, maps, and data to gather engineering information for public works projects.
- Update and duplicate city maps as roads and other changes occur.
- Assist in construction inspections, ensuring conformance to plans and specifications; process inspection records.
- Perform drafting tasks for public works plans, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, manual drafting, and use of drafting equipment.
- Calculate geometrical data (distances, angles, traverses) and prepare engineering calculations for street alignments.
- Communicate with the public, contractors, and consultants on engineering technical matters.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Engineering Technician I
- One year of technical engineering experience.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D with specialized college‑level courses related to drafting or engineering.
- Knowledge of drafting techniques, trigonometry, basic surveying, construction plans, and city policies related to traffic and right‑of‑way.
- Ability to reduce field notes to designs, prepare statistical reports, maintain records, and use algebraic and trigonometric formulas.
Engineering Technician II
- Two years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in drafting, design, or construction inspection.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D and at least 15 semester units of college‑level courses covering engineering, drafting, construction inspection, water treatment and distribution, hydrology, or related subjects.
- Knowledge of drafting, algebra, geometry, construction theory, regulations, and municipal policies.
- Ability to apply state and local policies, conduct drafting with CAD/ GIS, perform advanced calculations, manage records, and communicate effectively.
Engineering Technician I: $32.69–$39.74 per hour; $80,006–$82,662 annually.
Engineering Technician II: $38.84–$47.21 per hour; $80,793–$98,204 annually.
