The Registered Nurse (RN) – Risk Management is responsible for supporting the organization’s patient safety and risk management initiatives through proactive risk identification, event analysis, and collaboration with clinical and administrative teams. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and promotes a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the healthcare environment. The RN utilizes clinical expertise to evaluate incidents, reduce liability exposure, and enhance quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and evaluate patient safety events, incident reports, and near misses to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Conduct investigations into adverse events, coordinating with clinical staff and leadership to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Support compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with departments to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and safety initiatives.
- Prepare and maintain documentation for risk management activities, including reports, analysis, and recommendations.
- Provide education and training to staff on risk reduction, patient safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with Quality, Compliance, and Patient Safety teams to support performance improvement programs.
- Participate in committees and audits as required by hospital policy.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Risk Management and/or Patient Safety within an acute care setting.
- At least 1 year of experience must be in a California hospital.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare risk management principles and regulatory standards.
- Experience conducting root cause analyses (RCA) and developing corrective action plans.
- Familiarity with hospital accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS).
- Background in quality improvement or compliance programs.
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) – required or must be obtained within a designated timeframe.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) – required or preferred depending on facility needs.
