Job Summary

Delivers direct/indirect care for individual patients or an assigned group under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Meets patient care needs, assumes responsibility for patient data collection, provides psychiatric care using age‑related interventions, and assists with therapeutic and recreational activities as needed.

Education and

Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent:

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience:

  • Two years’ experience in acute or long‑term mental healthcare hospital:

Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) licensure in state of practice:

Facility Specific License/Certifications
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT):
    Required
Department Specific License/Certifications
  • Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI):
    Required
  • AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS:
    Required
Essential Functions
  • Use de‑escalation techniques and less restrictive interventions when providing nursing care, and apply seclusion and restraint interventions as needed. Plan care needs, evaluate problems, identify symptoms, review medical data, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Process admissions and discharges; complete intake interviews and orientation. Screen patient/clients upon admission, identifying physical, emotional, social, and cultural needs.
  • Observe, report, and document the effectiveness of preventive, diagnostic, supportive, and therapeutic interventions. Monitor diagnostic results and report to the Registered Nurse. Record observations of patient condition, including behavior, psychiatric symptoms, vital signs, weight, intake and output, and inform supervisor of changes.
  • Interact with patients, families, and other health‑care practitioners to keep informed about patient condition. Communicate abnormal symptoms and diagnostic data, provide safety instructions, and assist with education and teaching of problem‑solving skills.
  • Conduct routine rounds, monitor patients and environment for safety, obtain medication consent forms, administer medications per physician orders, and coordinate with pharmacy and nursing staff.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
