Job Description

As a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), you'll provide direct patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and physician orders. You'll administer medications and treatments, monitor patient conditions, perform routine clinical procedures, maintain accurate patient records, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to support treatment planning and continuity of care.

Practice Setting: Veterans Home, Correctional Healthcare Facility, or State Hospital.

Employment Opportunities: Full-time, PRN, and 13-week assignments may be available based on program needs and contract requirements.

Contingency:This position is contingent upon contract award.

Schedule: 12-hour day or night shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide nursing care, including administering medications, therapeutic agents, injections, treatments, and disease-prevention measures
  • Take vital signs, monitor catheters and intravenous devices, and apply or change treatments and dressings
  • Obtain specimens for diagnostic testing and perform routine laboratory tests
  • Monitor patient status and behavior and report findings to the primary care provider or registered nurse
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, patient-progress evaluations, and the development of care plans
  • Provide patient education and document treatments, nursing care, patient responses, and other required information in the medical record
  • Follow established safety, infection-control, and universal-precaution requirements
Qualifications

Requirements

  • Valid, active California license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • At least six months of experience within the last 36 months providing direct patient care in a public or private institution
  • At least six months of experience using electronic medication administration record (eMAR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems
  • Ability to meet applicable requirements for performing medical duties in healthcare facilities under California Code of Regulations Title 22 and Title 42 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations
  • Ability to perform nursing procedures within the applicable scope of practice; observe and document patient symptoms and behavior; maintain clinical records; and work effectively with patients and an interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Ability to function effectively in emergency and stressful situations while adjusting priorities based on patient needs
