Ross is seeking an experienced Assistant Store Manager to support store operations, supervise associates, and maintain high standards in customer service, merchandising, safety, and compliance.

General Purpose

Responsible for the management and supervision of all areas assigned by the Store Manager and follows policies regarding customers, associates, and merchandising. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager leads the entire operation of the store to ensure company standards and best practices are consistently met.

Essential Functions General Operating Requirements
  • Leads all company best practices and maximizes productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
  • Analyzes store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall store performance.
  • Communicates any variances from company standards to the Store Manager.
  • Ensures proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Schedules and completes all associate cleaning tasks throughout the store, including restrooms.
  • Accepts special assignments as directed by leadership.
  • Manages payroll administration including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.
Organizational Development
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt associates.
  • Ensures compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
  • Communicates associate relations issues to the Store Manager or District Manager as needed.
Expense Control
  • Assists in managing and continuously monitoring actual expenditures to stay within budget.
  • Controls payroll hours to meet plan and adjusts to current business trends.
Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
  • Prioritizes safety and practices safe behaviors in all activities.
  • Ensures all associates understand and can execute emergency operating procedures.
  • Maintains adherence to company safety policies and ensures safety of associates and customers.
  • Facilitates monthly safety meetings.
Customer Service
  • Treats all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Executes customer service programs and merchandise presentation programs through associate training and supervision.
  • Coaches retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.
Personal And Store Brand
  • Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
  • Maintains and models a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code.
  • Manages the store to ensure a clean, neat, and easy‑to‑shop environment.
  • Maintains high standards of housekeeping with maintenance personnel and associates.
  • Schedules and completes all associate cleaning tasks throughout the store.
Merchandise Processing and In‑Store Marketing
  • Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up.
  • Ensures merchandise is presented and organized according to company merchandising guidelines.
  • Manages merchandise processing to the sales floor within the expected company timeframe.
Loss Prevention
  • Trains associates on loss prevention awareness and store shortage goals.
  • Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions.
  • Maintains a strong presence on the sales floor and engages customers and associates.
  • Assists in leading the annual inventory process and executing inventory guidelines.
  • Monitors the mark‑out‑of‑stock policy and ensures proper administration.
  • Maintains the public view monitor system.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • Two or more years of store or assistant store manager experience in retail.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively to associates at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction, and follow through to completion.
